FATMAP Latest Updates - What's New? // September 2020

There have been so many new features and improvements recently, it’s time for another update on the latest things to check out!

A FACELIFT FOR THE ROUTE DETAILS PAGE!

When planning your next trip, you want to be able to see as much information as possible about your route, as quickly and as clearly as possible.

We’ve had a look at the way we display this information on FATMAP and have worked hard on an improved design, making your adventures more beautiful than ever!

Once you’ve selected a route, you’ll see a preview of the most important information at the bottom of the screen. You’ll also see that the fly through button is more prominent and you now have access to the Save, Share and Back button on the top of the screen.

Swiping up on the route info brings up a much more interactive and cleaner route information page, with a carousel of photos, shortcuts to Save, Share and Download the route offline and dedicated sections for the Elevation Profile, Route Features and Description.

Importantly, tapping on the map opens it in full screen mode, allowing you to clearly see the route without any distractions and quickly access the Terrain Overlays menu.

With the new design of the route details page, we are letting our responsive 3D map shine, and pairing it with key information you need to make an informed decision about whether a route is right for you.

INTERESTING POINTS

Finding viewpoints, landmarks, lift stations or mountain huts is not only a crucial part of adventure planning but also important when it comes to navigating on-the-go.

A highly requested feature by our community was to increase the number of these Points-Of-Interest (POIs) on the map and also make them interactive.

We’ve gone and done exactly that, adding over 20 different POIs to both the FATMAP app and website, including mountain peaks, lakes, towns, huts, lifts, glaciers, nature reserves, campsites, lookouts/viewpoints, waterfalls, and many more!

The best part? After tapping on a POI, it will automatically open the waypoint screen, allowing you to Save, Share, view in 3D and Focus on the location.

Adventures and ROUTES

The FATMAP Community is extremely active and we see literally hundreds of thousands of routes and adventures being added and uploaded to the platform on a weekly basis. The types of activities that are being added vary in big way.

Some users will track their routes and have them automatically synced across to their accounts using something like our tracking app, FATTRACK, or Strava, or they may even upload the GPX file of their route.

Others will use FATMAP to plan a future adventures in great detail, with complex itineraries, photos and extensive details. We also have our own team of Local Experts, adding high quality and accurate routes to the map, complete with photos and all the information and details you need.

As a result, we’ve now categorised these different types of experiences to make it much easier to organise, manage and share them.

You’ll now see in your profile:

  • My Routes - Routes are either a personal plan, or a recommended itinerary from one of FATMAP's editors. If published, it is an evergreen piece of content that represents a classic, known or suggested way to travel in a specific area.

  • My Adventures - representation of activity that has happened, i.e. a bike ride you tracked and uploaded to FATMAP, or a synced Strava route.

  • When viewing another user’s Profile, you will see there is also now an Activity tab to show your adventures and a Routes tab to show your routes.
